Some hints about writing and leading an opening prayer Prayer simply means to ask. In this prayer we are asking God to be with us during the service. Preface the prayer with words like "Please join me as we open our chapel service with a prayer – me ioni tatau" Begin the prayer by addressing God. Something like 'loving God, giving God', 'ever present God' you might want to link in the theme of the service. You can ask for focus, or understanding, peace, etc. Conclude in a similar way to the College Prayer.

Some hints about writing and leading prayers for others in a chapel service Prayer simply means to ask. In this prayer we are asking God to be with others. Preface the prayer with words like "Please join me as we pray for others" Begin the prayer by addressing God. Something like 'loving God, giving God', 'ever present God' you might what to link in the theme of the service. Here we pray for things outside the chapel service. Things around the world, New Zealand, our communities. Towards the end of the prayer it can be good to include a line like "in silence we make our own prayers for those people and places that need your love" followed by 5-10 seconds of silence. Conclude in a similar way to the College Prayer.

We say our College Prayer as a reminder of our school's values. Please stand E Ihoa, Nā tō aroha noa tēnei kāreti i hanga Whakaaetia mai i a mātou Te kaha ki te whakapono Te ahuwhenua ki te ako Te whakapau i te wā i kōnei Kia whakarangatira, kia pukuaroha mātou ki ētahi atu Ki te korōria o tō ingoa Nā Ihu Karaiti tō mātou Āriki, Āmine. Almighty God by whose grace this College was founded; Grant us that we may be strong in faith, Diligent in study, taking full advantage of our time here, And honourable and sensitive to all others; To the glory of Thy Name Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
